Floods: Number of evacuees down but continuous rain warning issued for parts of Johor


JOHOR BARU: Continuous rain is expected in parts of Johor including Segamat, Kluang, Mersing and Kota Tinggi on Monday (Feb 6).

The state disaster management committee reminded the public in the four districts to be alert about the weather forecast by the Meteorological Department.

“Five temporary flood relief centres in Batu Pahat and Segamat remain open to provide shelter to 420 evacuees as of 8am Monday.

“The figure went down slightly compared to the 506 evacuees recorded at 8pm Sunday (Feb 5),” it said.

Batu Pahat currently has 394 flood victims in four centres while Segamat has 26 seeking shelter in one location.

The statement also said Sungai Batu Pahat currently sits at 18.97m, which has exceeded the danger level of 18.70m.

“Sungai Muar in Segamat has reached 36.71m.

“If the water level rises to 37.30m, the river will hit danger level,” the statement read.
