Covid-19 Watch: 101 new cases, nationwide ICU bed usage at 62.3pc


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 101 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (Jan 24), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 5,035,073 infections since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry's KKMNow portal reported that 100 of Tuesday's new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while one imported infection was logged.

Recoveries outpaced new infections, with 315 patients recovering on Tuesday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,988,143 since the pandemic began.

The portal also reported that there were 9,998 active cases currently in the country, with 9,635, or 96.4%, observing home quarantine.

The KKMNow portal reported that 363 patients, or 3.63% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 12, with 10 of these patients requiring ventilation support.

The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 62.3%, with nine states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.

Putrajaya had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 100%, followed by Terengganu (85.7%), Selangor (78.9%), Kelantan (75.3%), Johor (72.3%), Negri Sembilan (67.3%), Kedah (64.6%), Kuala Lumpur (63%) and Sabah (60.7%).

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that there were no Covid-19 deaths reported on Tuesday.

The death toll remains at 36,932.
