PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 318 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday (Jan 19), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 5,033,943 infections since the pandemic began.
The Health Ministry's KKMNow portal reported that 317 of Thursday's new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while one imported infection was logged.
Recoveries outpaced new infections, with 331 patients recovering on Thursday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,986,643 since the pandemic began.
The portal also reported that there were 10,377 active cases currently in the country, with 9,960, or 96%, observing home quarantine.
The KKMNow portal reported that 417 patients, or 4.02% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 19, with 15 of these patients requiring ventilation support.
The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 64.1%, with 11 states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.
Putrajaya had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 100%, followed by Terengganu (85.7%), Kelantan (82.2%), Melaka (78.6%), Selangor (73.2%), Kedah (69.5%), Sabah (67.9%), Johor (66.1%), Perak (65.3%), Kuala Lumpur (65.2%) and Negri Sembilan (61.2%).
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that there were no Covid-19 deaths reported on Thursday.
The death toll remains at 36,923.
