Man nabbed in JB with 2.15kg of ganja


JOHOR BARU: A 22-year-old man has been arrested here for possessing 2.15kg of marijuana worth about RM5,000.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the suspect was detained at 9.40pm on Saturday (Jan 7) during a raid.

"We found and seized the marijuana following checks of the suspect. Also seized were cash amounting to RM1,100 and a motorcycle worth about RM5,000,” he said in a statement on Monday (Jan 9).

He added that the suspect, who tested negative for drugs, also has a criminal record for offences under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft.

“The suspect has been remanded for seven days until Saturday (Jan 14),” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

ACP Raub also urged the public to channel information on any criminal activities in the area to the district police headquarters at 07-2182323.
