‘KLIA Karen’ slapped with RM100 fine for creating a scene

PETALING JAYA: In another episode of inappropriate behaviour of a “Karen”, a Caucasian woman has been slapped with a RM100 fine, according to the KL International Airport (KLIA) police.

The woman, nicknamed “KLIA Karen”, was charged with making a scene after her request to exit the aircraft after boarding it was denied, said KLIA police chief ACP Imran Abd Rahman.

“The woman had gone into the plane before claiming that she had left some of her stuff behind. She then demanded to go out to get it, but she was not permitted to do so, hence she made a scene there.

“She was arrested, and we charged her with behaving inappropriately; she was fined RM100,” ACP Imran said when contacted.

A 16-second video of the woman hurling abusive words at an airline’s ground staff member has since made the rounds on social media.

“What would you do if people like this attacked you for no reason?” wrote TikTok user @missssssyl, who uploaded the video.

It is learned that the woman “attacked” the ground staff member for two days, Dec 25 and 26, at KLIA.

However, @missssssyl declined to give further details of the incident, adding that she had no intention to viral the case.

Last year, an incident involving a Caucasian woman who refused to wear a mask at a Dior boutique in Suria KLCC despite it being a requirement caused an uproar among social media users.

A video of the woman arguing with retail staff in the premier shopping mall went viral, leading netizens to label her as “Dior Karen”.

Karen is a pejorative term used to describe a woman with an inflated sense of entitlement.
