Cost of ECRL reduced by RM11bil, says PM

PUTRAJAYA: The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project cost has been reduced by RM11.01bil from the RM85.97bil originally announced in 2016, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Although there has been an increase in terms of cost, the overall cost of the ECRL is lower,” he told a press conference after the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday (Dec 21).

Anwar said the ECRL project will proceed without many changes, as that could slow down implementation and complicate ongoing negotiations as well as its progress.

“Congratulations to the Transport Ministry, Finance Ministry and Works Ministry for helping to speed up discussions,” he added.

The ECRL is expected to be operational by Jan 1, 2027.
