Sole Perlis opposition rep wants to help develop state

KANGAR: As the sole opposition representative in the Perlis legislative assembly, Gan Ay Ling (pic) is ready to cooperate with the state government to develop Perlis.

The Indera Kayangan assemblyman from PKR said those who had been given the mandate in the general election need to set aside their differences.

“We should focus on developing Perlis to make sure that it is on par with other states.

“Even though I am the only opposition member, I will work together with the other assemblymen to bring development and to serve the people,” she told Bernama at the state assembly complex here yesterday, adding that her job was to bring about positive changes for the people.

Earlier at the first meeting of the first session of the 15th Perlis State Legislative Assembly, Perlis PAS deputy commissioner Rus’sele Eizan took his oath of office as the new Speaker.

Mentri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli made the nomination and he was supported by the state’s Islamic religious affairs, education, youth and sports, human resource development, information and non-governmental organisations committee chairman Muhammad Azmir Azizan.

Fifteen assemblymen were also sworn-in at the event.

Rus’sele said he hoped all assemblymen would be able to provide insights and conduct themselves with integrity while presenting their arguments throughout the four-day sitting.
