Water surge at Lata Belatan a normal phenomenon, says Jabi rep

JERTIH: A water surge occurred at Lata Belatan in Jabi near here following heavy rain in Besut district since Sunday morning (Dec 18).

Jabi assemblyman Dr Azman Ibrahim said that the water surge was a normal phenomenon in the area.

"There are no settlements near the area so there has been no damage to property, and the amenity forest is under the purview of the state forestry office and has been closed to visitors.

"Only the area downstream might be affected by flooding if the river overflows further downstream,” he told Bernama tonight.

A video of the water surge had gone viral today and elicited various reactions from netizens.

Azman, who is also state agriculture, food industries, plantation, commodities and rural committee chairman, said the floods that hit Jabi were rather extraordinary.

He added that residents were forced to evacuate to relief centres this time, something they had not needed to do previously. - Bernama
