Unusual congestion at passport counters

PETALING JAYA: There was unusual congestion at passport counters at the Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur Immigration Departments, says Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud.

The Immigration Department director-general said this was due to the closure of passport offices in Selangor because of the public holiday yesterday along with the surge in demand for passports during the school holidays.

“The department advises the public to go to passport offices outside the Klang Valley where is it less crowded for passport application matters.

“Among the nearby and less crowded passport offices are in Seremban, Melaka, Cameron Highland, Raub, Kuala Langat, Kuala Kubu Baru, Pengkalan Hulu, Mersing, Kukup and Kangar,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He urged those who did not have urgent or emergency needs to postpone their plans to apply for passports and do it outside the peak period.

“The department advises the public not to wait until the last minute and to plan their journey in advance to avoid congestion,” he said.
