Telegram message from Johor Health director requesting money is fake, say cops

KOTA TINGGI: State police will investigate a fake message that claimed to be from Johor Health director Datuk Dr Aman Rabu requesting money.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the victim had lodged a police report at 11.31pm on Saturday (Dec 10) informing that his Telegram account had been hacked and the culprit had sent out messages requesting money.

"So far, no one has fallen victim to the scam, and if they have, we hope they will come forward so that we can investigate.

“Datuk Dr Aman informed us that the culprit had requested RM2,000 from all of his contacts,” he added.

He said this when met by reporters after the Johor Police Chief Dialogue Programme with Felda Settlers in Kota Tinggi here.

Dr Aman, when contacted, said that the Telegram account is not active and he only uses it to get in touch with his close friends.

“I’m not used to having too many social media accounts, so I rarely used my Telegram account.

“One of my close friends has informed me that the culprit had requested a screenshot of my account after claiming to be me, and saying that there is trouble accessing the account.

"In reality, the culprit only wanted to know the name of the account that they had hacked into," he explained, adding that he is relieved that no one fell for the scam tactics.

“If I wanted money, I would have asked my wife,” he said jokingly, adding that members of the public should be vigilant for such scams.
