PETALING JAYA: Star Media Group (SMG) chief business officer Lydia Wang has dedicated her win of the World Chinese Outstanding Woman Business Leader Award to the media company team.

The award for outstanding achievements and business acumen was presented by Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Melaka Tun Mohd Ali Rustam at the 2022 Global Chinese Economic & Technology (GCET) Summit held in Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

“This award is a reminder that great things happen when great people come together, and all that SMG has achieved would not have been possible without my colleagues.

“Their contribution, hard work and efforts have been instrumental in positioning SMG as a leading media organisation and innovative solutions provider,” she said at the event.

The event organised by KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific was attended by GCET founder and patron Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew, China Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing and Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim.

Wang said 2022 has been a turning point for SMG in many ways, with one of the major initiatives being the group’s efforts in pushing the global environmental, social and governance (ESG) agenda among businesses, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

“SMG has dedicated significant resources to communicate the importance of ESG in driving the national sustainability agenda. Leveraging on our wide reach and ability to influence all levels of society, we adopted a three-pronged approach to draw greater awareness and active participation.

“This includes a monthly ESG pullout, the ESG Positive Impact Awards, as well as thought leadership and knowledge sharing programmes,” she added.

Wang also expressed her appreciation to the teams behind many of SMG’s events and award initiatives, such as the StarProperty Awards, Export Excellence Award, StarCarSifu Editors’ Choice Awards and Malaysia Developer Award.

“These award initiatives are clear examples of how strategic collaborations are able to encourage and support local enterprises to reach greater heights.

“Together with our working partners, SMG will continue to amplify the achievements of local businesses through our media platforms and marketing solutions,” she said.

Formerly known as the World Chinese Economic Summit, the GCET Summit aims to enhance connections and promote business, education and technology partnerships among global leaders.

The summit saw the presentation of awards to recognise the contributions of business leaders under various categories, including the Global Chinese Distinguished Entrepreneur Lifetime Achievement Award, Global Chinese Distinguished Entrepreneur Achievement Award, World Chinese Distinguished Woman Entrepreneur Award and World Chinese Outstanding Woman Business Leader Award.

Wang was also conferred the World Women Media Leadership Award by KSI earlier this year.
