Scammer uses DJ Dave’s name to get money

KUALA LUMPUR: A scammer is posing as popular singer Datuk DJ Dave to borrow money from people he knows.

The singer said a man had been using his WhatsApp profile picture and contacting various people from his contact list asking for loans since Saturday morning.

“I received more than 100 phone calls from people who the scammer almost tricked. I hope everyone will be careful,” he said.

DJ Dave said he heard from his friends about such a scam but never thought he would be the victim.

“I was shocked that the photo used by the scammer was my profile photo. I have since changed the photo,” he added.

Friends told DJ Dave that the scammer asked for RM3,000 to RM8,000 and had contacted them in the wee hours of Saturday.

He has since lodged a police report at the Travers police station.
