ALOR SETAR: The Padang Serai parliamentary seat nomination went off without a hitch as lawyer Dr Mohamad Sofee Razak was nominated by Pakatan Harapan to replace its late incumbent MP M. Karupaiya.

Mohamad Sofee was announced as Pakatan candidate for Padang Serai on Wednesday (Nov 23), after the 15th General Election here was postponed due to Karupaiya's death days before polling day on Nov 19.

Mohamad Sofee is joined by Barisan Nasional's Datuk Sivarraajh Chandran, Perikatan Nasional's Datuk Azman Nasrudin, Pejuang's Hamzah Abdul Rahman and Independent candidate Sreanandha Rao at the nomination centre in the Kulim High Tech Park Sports Complex in Kedah.

Warisan's candidate Mohd Bakri Hashim was not present.

The Perikatan and Barisan supporters turned up in full support with both congregations braving the morning heat to chant their respective party names.

Mohamad Sofee, 47, a lawyer by profession, contested the Kuala Ketil state seat during GE14.

The Kedah PKR secretary is also a journal and magazine writer.

In GE15, Karupaiya, 68, who was the incumbent MP, passed away two days before polling day.

The six-way tussle will now take place over the span of the next 14 days.

The Election Commission has set polling day here on Dec 7, with early voting on Dec 3.
