Barisan MPs summoned for meeting at Istana Negara today

PETALING JAYA: Although they have decided to stay out of government en bloc, the 30 Barisan Nasional MPs have been summoned before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Their audience with the King at Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur will start at 10.30am today.

Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said this was the next step after the King held separate audiences with Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at 4.30pm yesterday.

“The process is so that Yang di- Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah can make a decision to appoint a Member of Parliament who, in His Majesty’s view, might command the majority of the Dewan Rakyat as provided by Article 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution,” said Ahmad Fadil in a statement.

The King has also advised Malaysians to be patient and calm until the process of forming a new federal government and appointing the 10th prime minister is completed.

“His Majesty called upon all the people to pray that the process will be eased and go smoothly for the sake of the beloved nation.

“He also called upon all to pray for the country and the people to always be blessed and protected from disasters and calamities,” said Ahmad Fadil.
