PETALING JAYA: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has expressed his desire for the formation of a strong government that is more inclusive in terms of race, religion and region, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Pakatan Harapan chairman, who had an audience with Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah yesterday, said the King had expressed his wish to see an agreement and cooperation from all to ensure a strong new government that could take care of the people’s welfare and resuscitate the economy.

The King, he added, also wanted the new government to be inclusive of all races, religions and those from all regions.

“‘Unity government’ is the term I used yesterday and it’s a great coincidence that over the past few years, the King has consistently requested that there be a spirit of unity among the people,” he said.

The PKR president noted that His Majesty had said the same thing when Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and later Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob were appointed prime minister.

Anwar accused them of not abiding by the King’s wishes.

“I am different, I respect and obey,” he told a press conference outside Istana Negara following his audience with Sultan Abdullah.

Anwar said they would do their best and digest the advice given by the King and wait for His Majesty’s final decision on the prime minister post.
