PUTRAJAYA: In a battle that can only be described as a "David vs Goliath" fight, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari took the Gombak parliamentary seat from Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
Amirudin, who was often described as Azmin’s protégé, won the seat with 72,267 votes for a majority of 12,729.
His former mentor only managed to garner some 59,538 votes.
This was considered a surprising defeat for Azmin, the International Trade and Industry Minister in the caretaker government, who won the seat in 2018 with 75,113 votes.
