GE15: Cops arrest person linked to vandalism of campaign material in Kuantan


PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a person of interest in connection with the vandalism of campaign material in Kuantan, Pahang.

Bukit Aman General Election Operations Director Comm Datuk Hazani Ghazali said the suspect was arrested over the incident which occurred at around 1.34am on Nov 12.

"In the incident the complainant who lives at a house along Jalan Dato Bahaman, Kuantan received a message on WhatsApp which showed a billboard of a candidate which had been vandalised.

"We have opened investigations for committing mischief under Section 427 of the Penal Code," he said in a statement on Saturday (Nov 19).

He added that a total of 20 investigation papers were opened on Friday (Nov 18).

"Five investigation papers (IP) were opened in Pahang followed by Sabah (three), while two IP were opened in Johor, Penang and Perak respectively. Perlis, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Negri Sembilan and Kelantan recorded one IP respectively," he said.

Meanwhile, on the ceramah held on Friday, Comm Hazani said 944 were held with proper permits.

"Perak was the highest with 174 held followed by Sabah(161) and Johor (107)," he said.
