Disney: No plans to build Disneyland in Melaka

PETALING JAYA: There are no such plans to build a Disneyland in Melaka.

The news was confirmed by Disney officials to CNN reporter Heather Chen, who had reached out to them after a Melaka state exco announced the opening of the theme park by 2027.

Chen had earlier on Thursday (Nov 17) tweeted about the original clarification that she received from Disney, but deleted it shortly after on orders of Disney.

She then posted a new tweet clarifying the situation.

"My tweet has now been deleted by the order of Disney.

"But the original clarification I made from reaching out and reporting still stands.

"There are no official plans for a Disney theme park in Melaka, earlier reports were purely speculative and misinformed," she tweeted.

Melaka Heritage and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Muhammad Jailani Khamis had told reporters on Wednesday (Nov 16) that the theme park will be the first in Asean, coming after the ones in China, Europe and Japan.

According to News Straits Times, the Disneyland theme park and Disney City would be built on 80.9ha of land in Jasin.

The construction is estimated to cost about RM2bil, according to Melaka Hari Ini.
