Postal voting for military began on Nov 7, says defence chief

PETALING JAYA: Only military personnel who registered as postal voters and who received Postal Ballot Paper Priority Envelope issued by the Returning Officer (RO) can cast their ballots.

Chief of Defence Force Jen Tan Sri Affendi Buang (pic) said those registered as postal voters started voting on Nov 7 and would continue until 5pm on Nov 19.

He said early voting for military personnel and their spouses, involving some 146,737 people, would be held tomorrow.

“A total of 153 military early voting centres have also been gazetted by the Election Commission (EC) for the personnel and their spouses nationwide.

“The Armed Forces hopes the voting process goes on smoothly to enable each member to carry out their responsibility as a voter like any other Malaysian,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Jen Affendi’s statement came after Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim alleged that military personnel, particularly those in Bera, had cast their ballots on Friday and were paid RM300 each.

Anwar also claimed that he could prove his allegations and asked for an investigation to be carried out.

Jen Affendi also said the military was always supportive of the democratic parliamentary system with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as the Head of State.

As loyalty to the King, the personnel adhere to the integrity norms in carrying out their duty and responsibility for the well-being of the country, he added.
