Floods: Number of victims rises in Johor, Pontian latest hit


JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in the state has risen to 323 people from 74 families, with Pontian becoming the latest district to be hit by floods.

Johor Civil Defence director Asst Comm (PA) Kamal Mokhtar said as of 8pm Sunday (Nov 13), one temporary relief centre (PPS) had been opened, raising the number of PPS to seven.

“As of 8pm, the number of victims had risen to 323 people compared with 276 at 8am on the same day.

“The latest affected areas are Kampung Sri Gambut, Pekan Nenas, Pontian where all of the victims have been placed at SK Melayu Raya PPS,” he said in a statement here.

A total of 17 people from four families at Kampung Sri Gambut were rescued at 5.50pm, he added.

The other PPS are Dewan Raya Kampung Murni Jaya and Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Baru Sengkang in Kulai; Dewan Utama Kampung Ithnin Maarof, Kluang; Balairaya Kampung Batu Badak, Balairaya Kampung Kuala Paya, and Dewan Komuniti Tasek in Segamat.
