Anwar, Ahmad Faizal in four-corner fight for Tambun seat


IPOH: The Tambun parliamentary seat, deemed a hot seat in the 15th General Election (GE15), will see a four-cornered fight.

The “battle” will see PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim up against Bersatu deputy president and incumbent MP Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu Tambun Umno division chief Datuk Aminuddin Md Hanafiah and Abdul Rahim Tahir from Pejuang.

Anwar is Pakatan Harapan’s prime minister candidate, Aminuddin, a former Hulu Kinta assemblyman and Perak Barisan’s secretary, lost the seat to PKR's Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad in the 14th General Election.

Anwar was the first to put in his nomination form at 9.02am at the Ipoh Industrial Training Institute’s Sri Kledang Hall near here, followed by Aminuddin at 9.04am, Ahmad Faizal at 9.06am, and Abdul Rahim at 9.15am

The two state seats under the constituency - Manjoi and Hulu Kinta, will see a three-cornered fight respectively.

Incumbent and Perak Amanah chairman Datuk Asmuni Awi, Datuk Azizul Kama Abd Aziz from Umno and Hafez Sabri from PAS will contest for the Manjoi seat.

The Hulu Kinta seat will see PKR’s incumbent Muhamad Arafat facing Datuk Mazlan Abd Rahman from Umno, Puteri Holijah Muhamad Rali from Bersatu, and independent candidate S. Murugiah, 57, a contractor.

Returning officer Datuk Mohamad Fariz Mohamad Hanip announced the names of all the parliamentary and state seat candidates.

Earlier, supporters from each coalition marched towards the centre carrying the respective flags and banners of the coalition and parties.

The supporters started to gather along the streets near the centre from as early at 7am as a show of support for the respective candidates.

A total of 160,558 voters are eligible to cast their votes in the Tambun parliamentary constituency.
