GE15: Be on your best behaviour throughout or face action, Selangor cops tell parties


SHAH ALAM: Selangor police have urged all parties to refrain from causing disturbances especially during Nomination Day on Saturday (Nov 5).

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said they would not hesitate to take strict action against anyone who tried to create trouble during this time.

"We have called the respective parties over and briefed them on where to park their vehicles, gather and march towards nomination centres on Saturday to avoid potential conflict.

"We have also informed them that the use of loudspeakers is prohibited, and so is provocation," he told reporters at Selangor police headquarters here on Friday (Nov 4).

He said political parties had been advised to cooperate with police instructions and keep their supporters from behaving aggressively.

Comm Arjunaidi also reminded all candidates and supporters to follow the rules set by police and the Election Commission for the entire 15th General Election (GE15) period.

"We will not hesitate to take action if any individual is found to have committed any wrongdoing.

"Yesterday (Thursday, Nov 3), we received a report that a political party had held a talk before the two-week campaigning period.

"The case happened in Petaling Jaya and we are investigating under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012," he stressed.

Comm Arjunaidi also reminded all political party members not to appeal for votes within 50m of polling stations.

He also added that mosques and surau were not allowed to be used as a venues for lectures and to promote any politician, as it had been prohibited by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Comm Arjunaidi added that there would be a number of road closures near nomination centres in Petaling Jaya, North Klang, Shah Alam, Kajang, Gombak, Hulu Selangor, Ampang Jaya, Sungai Buloh and Sabak Bernam.

"Main roads would also be closed along Jalan Persiaran 3, Bandar Baru Selayang and Lorong Sekolah SMK Sg Pusu in Gombak, while in Petaling Jaya, Jalan Yong Shook Lin (from the IJM building to Menara Choy Fook Onn), Jalan 52/18 (from Texas Chicken to Restoran Ajmeer), and Lebuh Bandar Utama would be closed to facilitate the nomination process," he said.
