KOTA BARU: Incumbent Jeli MP Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed will sit out the upcoming 15th General Election due to health concerns.
The news was confirmed by his political secretary Zahari Kechik.
"Yes, confirmed. He will not be contesting due to his health and adhering to doctor's advice," he said when contacted.
Zahari, who was speculated to replace his boss, however, said it was still uncertain whether he would be named as replacement.
"I am in no position to confirm this. The question should be posted to the Kelantan Perikatan Nasional liaison committee," he said.
Zahari said he has yet to receive any invitation to attend the Kelantan Perikatan candidates announcement on Wednesday night (Nov 2).
He, however, said that he had no issues contesting for the seat.
Mustapa, or Tok Pa, in a statement said he had conveyed his wish to Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Tok Pa, 72, has represented Barisan Nasional in Jeli since 1995 before he switched to Bersatu in 2018.
