Floods: 17 evacuated in Segamat

SEGAMAT: Five families from two villages here were forced to evacuate after their homes were flooded.

According to the Johor Civil Defence Force, one flood relief centre has opened at the Kampung Batu Batu Badak hall at 8am on Wednesday (Nov 2) to provide relief for the 17 victims.

"The victims are from Kampung Seberang Batu Badak and Kampung Batu 5, where floodwaters rose as a result of rain and overflowing of the Segamat River nearby," it said in a statement.

It added that the weather in the area was still cloudy as of noon and the Force would continue monitoring the situation.

The Force said the Meteorology Department also issued a warning of heavy thunderstorms in several parts of the state such as Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat, Pontian and Johor Baru.
