Stop using racial issues as a political tool, Zahid tells DAP

PETALING JAYA: DAP should stop using racial issues as a political tool in its political campaigns, says Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Ahmad Zahid said that recent statements made by DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang during a campaign rally in Kinarut, Sabah, would only weaken the national unity of races in Malaysia.

"Lim's statements only risk creating suspicion among the people of various races and religions.

“What does Lim mean when he seemingly implied that there are first, second, or third class citizens based on race in this country?" he wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Nov 1).

Ahmad Zahid added that the "Ketuanan Melayu" policy that Lim seemingly criticised had been a long established culture that did not infringe on the rights and opportunities of other races in Malaysia.

Lim had said that in order for Malaysia to progress further as a nation, it would need to adopt a "Ketuanan Malaysia" policy rather than "Ketuanan Melayu."
