Couple and toddler killed in car-lorry collision on NSE


MELAKA: A couple and their one-year-old son were killed in an accident at KM216 on the northbound lane of the North-South Expressway.

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Arshad Abu identified the victims as Muhammad Nazirul Syafiq Azmi and his wife Zubaidah Abd Rajak, both 28, and their son Muhammad Rizqi Muhammad Nazrul Syafiq.

He said all the victims lived at Apartment Cenderasari, Taman Perbadanan Islam Larkin in Johor Baru.

"The husband and wife worked in separate private hospitals in Johor Baru.

"The victims' car collided with a lorry that was exiting the Ayer Keroh rest and recreational area at about 11am on Friday (Oct 28)," he said.

Supt Arshad said the victims were killed instantly due to head injuries.

He said the 43-year-old driver of the lorry escaped unhurt.

Melaka Fire and Rescue Department operations officer Muhamad Ezanee Hamat said a distress call was made at 11.02am and 21 rescuers from Alor Gajah, Ayer Keroh and Tampin rushed to the scene.

He said the victims were found lifeless at the scene.
