DAP drops three-term Klang MP Santiago

PETALING JAYA: DAP has dropped popular three-term incumbent Klang MP Charles Santiago (pic) despite a campaign by various groups including voters there for him to be retained.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke announced that Kota Kemuning assemblyman V. Ganabatirau would be replacing Santiago.

Loke also announced Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo will be contesting the Damansara parliamentary seat, taking over from Tony Pua.

Replacing Gobind in Puchong is incumbent Bakri MP Yeo Bee Yin, who was also former Damansara Utama assemblyman.

Meanwhile Syahredzan Johan, who is political secretary to DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang, will be contesting the Bangi parliamentary seat.

Syahredzan is replacing incumbent MP Ong Kian Ming, who had earlier announced his decision not to contest in GE15.

On his decision not to contest, Pua said it was on his own accord.

“Many leaders had done their part to persuade me but this is my decision alone to step away from the electoral frontline,” he said.

Loke said the party fully respected Pua’s decision during a DAP fundraising dinner here yesterday.
