Bersih: Join the GE15 'amazing race' and help bring postal votes home

PETALING JAYA: Malaysians across the globe are urged to unite in “the amazing race” to get postal ballots from voters overseas back to Malaysia in time for the 15th General Election (GE15), says the Global Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih).

Its overseas chapter said volunteers, comprising those who were flying back to Malaysia between Nov 10 to 18, were needed to help transport postal ballots back home, with volunteers also needed to coordinate ballots in areas locally and act as runners in Malaysia, among others.

This was due to the fact that the Election Commission (EC) would only be issuing postal ballots after nomination day on Nov 5.

The Global Malaysian Network is also part of the initiative and has prepared an online registration form to ease the volunteer registration process.

Its co-admin Joshua Ng said Malaysians were once again thrown in a race against time to get ballots home by Nov 19.

“During the 14th General Election (GE14), many of us stepped up, banded together and collectively sent our ballots home.

“We had our ups and downs but it is time to put aside our differences and work together again. The call for volunteers has been sounded,” Ng said in the form.

The Global Malaysian Network is a Facebook group aiming to connect Global Malaysians and advance camaraderie and goodwill.

Ng added that volunteers were needed to help coordinate yet another amazing race to get ballots to their final destinations.

"The Global Malaysian Network is also working with organisations and individuals overseas who did the exact same exercise during GE14.

“If you are a Malaysian living overseas and willing to help, please leave your name and a minimum of one method in which people can use to contact you,” he said.

Nomination day for GE15 is set for Nov 5 with polling day on Nov 19.
