GE15: I will not be contesting, says Wanita MCA chief

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Heng Seai Kie says she is not contesting in the upcoming 15th General Election.

The Wanita MCA chief said she's giving the national polls a pass to focus on another mission.

"I will be leading the party's election machinery nationwide, especially in areas where there are Wanita candidates," she said.

Heng had earlier launched Wanita MCA's official website (www.wmca.com.my) and was responding to a question whether she would be contesting in GE15.

Heng noted that other MCA leaders who were not contesting in the polls would also do the same.

"We will be a part of the election machinery and assist the candidates in their campaigning," she added.

Heng, who contested in the Gopeng parliamentary seat in Perak in GE14 in 2018, lost with a 29,778 majority to Dr Lee Boon Chye from PKR.

On Oct 23, it was reported that the Gopeng parliamentary seat is expected to see a young and vibrant face from MCA and Gopeng MCA vice-chairman Cally Ting was said to be the most likely candidate.
