Country's diversity gives it strength, says Dr Wee

PETALING JAYA: The country's uniqueness in diverse celebrations, such as Deepavali, should be preserved as a strength for generations to come, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president said this after visiting MIC president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran's residence with his wife to celebrate the festival on Monday (Oct 24).

"This is the uniqueness of our country where diversity is celebrated together with the spirit of the Malaysian Family.

"Visiting and celebrating festivals in Malaysia has also been a practice for all of us for a long time.

"It is hoped that it will continue to be the practice of the next generation and this heritage needs to be preserved forever because this is our uniqueness and strength," said Dr Wee in a Facebook post after the event.

Also present were Prime Minister Datuk Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob who is also Umno vice-president, Barisan Nasional's chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, former MCA president Tan Sri Liow Tiong Lai, MCA vice-president Datuk Lim Ban Hong, MCA secretary general Datuk Chong Sin Woon and MCA Youth leader Datuk Nicole Wong.
