GE15: Sarawak DAP to contest under own logo

KUCHING: Sarawak DAP will contest using its own logo instead of the Pakatan Harapan logo in the 15th General Election (GE15).

State DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen said it had the autonomy to determine which logo to use for the polls.

"It has been made clear that we will contest using the rocket logo," he told reporters at state DAP headquarters here on Friday (Oct 21).

The Pakatan Harapan presidential council had earlier decided that its component parties would use the coalition's logo in GE15.

In the Sarawak state election in December, Pakatan parties contested using their own party logos.

However, Sarawak PKR and Amanah have decided to use the Pakatan logo for GE15.

Chong also said Sarawak DAP had "more or less" finalised its candidates for the polls.

He said the party would contest eight parliamentary seats, one fewer than the number it contested in GE14 in 2018.

"PKR asked to stand in Kapit, where we contested previously.

"After discussions with our grassroots, we agreed as they were of the view that the PKR candidate has a better chance," Chong said.

He said DAP would defend the Mas Gading, Stampin, Bandar Kuching, Sarikei, Sibu and Lanang seats and also field candidates in Serian and Bintulu.

"We'll do our best to retain our six seats and hopefully win one or two more, to maintain a chance for Pakatan to form the Federal Government," he added.

The candidates will be announced this weekend in Sibu and Kuching.
