PADANG BESAR: The National Storytelling Competition organised by the Information Department is seen to be able to instil and raise the spirit of patriotism among the younger generation, says Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin.

The Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister said the competition aimed at upholding the dignity of national figures who have made significant contributions to the country.

"This competition has been held since 2003, and six groups have been selected for the 2022 National Storytelling Competition Finals, representing their respective states, namely, Johor, Melaka, Perlis, Penang, Labuan and Selangor,” he told reporters on Sunday (Oct 16).

Zahidi was met after officiating at the 2022 National Storytelling Competition Finals at Institut Kemahiran MARA Beseri here.

Also present were Information director-general Datuk Mohd Sukari Ab. Hamid and Perlis Information Department director Azrul Hasan.

Zahidi said the competition involved students from higher learning institutions and secondary schools across Malaysia and hoped to unearth new talents in acting, singing and so on.

"The Communications and Multimedia Ministry is responsible for boosting the creative industry and I hope this kind of competition will help improve their talents,” he said.

He added that the competition was well-received by the young generation and could attract their interest in learning history and getting to know national figures. - Bernama
