Man found murdered in Ipoh city centre, suspect nabbed


IPOH: The body of a man believed to have been murdered has been found near a row of shophouses on Jalan Leong Sin Nam here.

Perak police chief Datuk Comm Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the body was discovered by some passers-by who contacted the police at about 5.20am on Sunday (Oct 16).

"The man, aged 68, was found near a flight of stairs.

"Checks by the police and forensics personnel from the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital found injuries on his chin caused by a sharp object," he said in a statement.

"There were also scratch marks on both the victim's arms," he said, adding that the case would be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Comm Mohd Yusri also said that the police arrested a 51-year-old man at about 6.50am and believe that they have solved the case.

"The man will be remanded for seven days from Oct 16 to 22 to facilitate investigations. A post-mortem will be conducted on the victim on Monday (Oct 17)," he added.
