KOTA KINABALU: Bandau assemblyman Datuk Wetrom Bahandar appears to have his heart set on joining Parti Warisan, says Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.

The party Warisan president claimed that Wetrom, a state assistant minister with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, had been "offering himself to the party" and there was no reason why he should not be considered.

"He is a Sabahan too so why not?," he said when asked about talk of Wetrom joining Warisan and becoming its candidate for the Kota Marudu seat here on Sunday (Oct 16)

Shafie said a meeting with Wetrom would be held very soon.

On Saturday (Oct 15), Wetrom had caused a stir on social media as videos showed him talking of leaving the party and joining Warisan.

In the video, he is seen telling a group of supporters that he will be contesting under the Warisan ticket for Kota Marudu.

A picture also shows him with a group of Warisan supporters.

Sources reported that Wetrom had been eyeing to be a candidate for the Kota Marudu Parliament seat, currently held by Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili.
