Amanah eyes Bersatu seats in GE15

PADANG BESAR: Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) intends to contest in the seats that were once allocated to Bersatu under Pakatan Harapan, with the candidate list for the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15) to be announced next week.

Amanah vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa said the policy set by Pakatan was very clear in that all component parties could claim the seats allocated to Bersatu in the 14th General Election (GE14).

“Alhamdulillah, the discussions have been completed without any problem and we are just waiting for the announcement of the candidates at the Pakatan convention to be held in Ipoh on Thursday,” he said after attending the Bicara Politik Semasa programme here on Friday.

Pakatan now consists of PKR, DAP, Amanah and the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko).

In GE14 in 2018, Bersatu was a Pakatan component party before withdrawing from the coalition on Feb 23, 2020.

According to Bernama, Mujahid said in previous discussions at the national level that Amanah was to contest in 30 to 40 seats in GE15 but this would depend on the decision to be announced later.

He said the list of candidates, including that for the prime minister post, as well as Pakatan’s manifesto and theme would be announced during the convention.
