Barisan’s healthcare manifesto on Khairy’s mind

KUALA LUMPUR: While it remains a guessing game where Khairy Jamaluddin will be contesting in the 15th General Election (GE15), the Health Minister says his attention is on preparing proposals for Barisan Nasional’s healthcare manifesto, which will also include the Generational End Game (GEG) Bill.

The Control of Tobacco Products and Smoking Bill 2022 was supposed to be tabled for the second reading in the Dewan Rakyat by Oct 6, but that did not materialise as Parliament was dissolved.

“As Health Minister, I am in the midst of finalising the proposals I have prepared,” he said at a press conference after the CRM Trial Connect 2022 conference here yesterday, adding that the proposals would be submitted to Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin who is in charge of the GE15 manifesto.

On the health protocols for GE15, Khairy said that the ministry has suggested that Covid-19 positive voters be given separate lanes and voting stations.

“However, its implementation depends on the Election Commission (EC),” he said.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said on Thursday that those who were Covid-19 positive but not in critical condition would be allowed to come out and vote.
