Man assaulted for telling off noisy, intoxicated group


KUALA LUMPUR: A man was beaten up after he told a group of allegedly drunk men not to make too much noise.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the incident occurred at 12.39am on Thursday (Oct 13) near a parking lot along Jalan Seri Merdeka 1, Taman Seri Merdeka here.

"We were alerted that a fight occurred there and sent police to check.

"We found that four men were drinking and intoxicated when a man told them not to make noise," he said in a statement on Friday (Oct 14).

He said a verbal argument ensued which ended up in a brawl.

"We later arrested three men on Jalan Seri Merdeka 1 at 1.35am while another man was arrested along Jalan Wawasan Ampang in Bandar Baru Ampang.

"The men were aged between 26 and 54, and worked as a delivery man, cook and bus driver while the fourth suspect is unemployed," he said.

All the suspects have criminal records and have been remanded for three days, he added.

"We also seized a helmet and a glue gun which was brandished like a pistol by one of the suspects during the argument.

"We have classified the case as rioting under Section 148 of the Penal Code," he said.
