KUALA LUMPUR: Senior lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah is keeping mum on the possiblity of his client, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, campaigning in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).
Shafee implied that he would be looking to argue for Najib’s participation as a candidate in GE15 despite Najib’s ongoing prison sentence during a press conference in front of the Kuala Lumpur High Court lobby on Wednesday (Oct 12).
“I do not want to touch on the topic now as there are a number of interesting arguments and developments that I do not want to make public yet.
“When I execute it then you will know about it then,” he said.
Prisons director-general Datuk Nordin Muhammad said that the former prime minister would not be allowed to go out to campaign in GE15, noting that Najib is subject to the Prisons Act and its regulations like any other prisoner, on Tuesday (Oct 11).
Najib is currently serving his 12-year prison sentence at Kajang Prison after the Federal Court upheld the Kuala Lumpur High Court's decision to convict Najib on his RM42mil SRC International Sdn Bhd case on Aug 23.
