GE15: BN to highlight new candidates, determined to field 30% women candidates


KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional supreme council has decided to highlight new candidates with who had winnable values, were acceptable and likeable, says Barisan Nasional.

Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir (pic) said they also determined to reach 30% of women candidates.

"Discussion on seat allocations between component parties and parties friendly to the coalition will be finalised.

"The supreme council agrees to the efforts to highlight new candidates with who had winnable values, were acceptable and likeable," he said in a statement after the Barisan Nasional Supreme Council meeting, held at the Menara Dato Onn, here on Tuesday (Oct 11) night.

"Barisan Nasional is committed to ensuring that the welfare of the people is empowered and the sovereignty of the country continues to be preserved by offering policies that are pro-people in driving sustainable and comprehensive socioeconomic development," he said.

Zambry said all party machinery had been asked to be prepared to face GE15 at parliament and state assembly under the Barisan Nasional components.

"The Supreme Council honors the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's consent to dissolve Parliament in accordance with His Majesty's powers as stipulated under Article 40(2)(b) and Article 55(2) of the Constitution Federation.

"The supreme Council has instructed the chairman of the Coordinating Committee to organise coordination meetings to prepare for GE15," it added.

Among those who attended the meeting on Tuesday night were Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, secretary-general Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, Barisan treasurer-general Datuk Seri Hishammudin Hussein, MIC Deputy President Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, MCA Deputy President Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon, MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon.

Caretaker prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is Umno vice-president was also in attendance.

Hishammudin on his Facebook posted that the meeting was to strengthen preparation works towards GE15.

"May Allah bless and ease all matters," he stated.

Ismail Sabri had on yesterday (Monday) announced the dissolution of Parliament on Oct 10, paving the way for GE15 that must be held within 60 days.

Previously, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah in a separate statement on Tuesday expressed his disappointment over the current political situation which led him to say "yes" for the dissolution to end political turmoil.

The King also expressed his hope that the GE15 would be held as soon as possible, taking into account the bad weather expected from mid-November due to the northeast monsoon season.

The Election Commission (EC) said it would meet on Oct 20 to discuss on the dates for GE15.
