GE15: Nazri's name on candidate list due to incumbency, up to Top Five to decide, says Saarani

BAGAN SERAI: Padang Rengas MP Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz is among 126 names of candidates for the15th General Election (GE15) that have been submitted to Umno's Top Five for consideration.

Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad (pic) said as the incumbent, Nazri's name was submitted by his division committee.

"He had said that he didn't want (to stand in GE15).

"But because he is the incumbent, the division committee has submitted his name as well," he told a press conference after the Meet the Customers programme at Selinsing here on Tuesday (oct 11).

"Whether he will be contesting, it is up to the top five to decide," he said.

Saarani, who is state Umno chairman, said there were a few other incumbents who have stated their wish not to stand in the elections.

"Some of them have said that they don't want to contest but we cannot reveal who.

"It is a secret that we cannot let the Opposition know," he said.

"It will be a surprise for them," he added.

On the list of names that have been submitted, Saarani said these included those who will stand in state assembly seats.

When asked whether he would continue to defend his Kota Tampan state seat, Saarani said he hopes that he will be given the chance.

He said the state, led by him, has mapped out the Perak Sejahtera 2030 state development plan and hopes to see it come to fruition.

"I took one-and-a-half years to study, to get views and requests from the people at all levels and compiled them for the plan.

"Good plans need to be implemented, not just rhetoric, so I hope those who understand the philosophies behind the plan can implement it successfully," he said.

"I am the Mentri Besar that planned for it and I am committed (to implement the plan).

"Give me a chance to continue the plans that I have drawn out," he added.
