GE15: Opposition’s petition has failed, people want election this year, says Puad

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi has downplayed the petition led by a member of the Opposition, saying it has failed to reflect the real demands of the rakyat.

The Umno supreme council member said the petition calling against the 15th General Election to be held this year only managed to garner 3,000 signatures.

“I want to remind Rafizi Ramli (PKR deputy president), to prepare a lot of ‘umbrellas’.

“We can see that his petition had failed because only 3,000 of the people signed it.

“It shows that the people want the polls to be held this year,” he told the media here Monday (Oct 10).

On Sept 27, Rafizi launched the online petition against calling for the polls during the monsoon season.

Mohd Puad added that it was not too early for GE15 to be held.

“The deadline is getting near. The rakyat are looking forward to a more stable government,” he added.

Umno supreme council members will be holding a special meeting to discuss the preparations for GE15 today and several key Umno leaders have arrived at Menara Dato Onn here.
