TANGKAK: Malaysia is facing an uncertain future due to talk of the 15th General Election (GE15) being called soon, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president called upon Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to give the exact date when the election will be held to address these uncertainties.
"Ismail Sabri should state when GE15 will be held, whether it will be soon or later," he said.
Muhyiddin, who is also Perikatan Nasional chairman, said this after officiating the Bersatu Pagoh division meeting at Dewan Geliga in Gersik here on Saturday (Oct 8).
He said that the Perikatan coalition had stated that GE15 should not be held anytime soon as there were more urgent matters that took priority.
Muhyiddin said major floods hit the country each year resulting in severe damage to houses as well as the loss of innocent lives.
"Furthermore, some states have already announced that they will not be dissolving their respective state assemblies if Parliament is dissolved soon and that it would cost the Election Commission (EC) some RM2bil to hold separate elections.
"If they can remain patient a little longer, we can save RM1bil, which can be used to help the people," he said, adding that GE15 can be held after the floods.
Muhyiddin added that Ismail Sabri should not listen to the Umno top five, who want GE15 to be held soon, as they are not part of the government.
"GE15 should not be held before March next year. The people will see that the Prime Minister understand their situation as many of them are still reeling from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic," he said.
