Covid-19 Watch: 1,788 new cases, nationwide ICU bed usage at 63.3pc


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 1,788 new Covid-19 cases on Friday (Oct 7), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,851,896 infections since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry's KKMNow portal reported that 1,782 of Friday's new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while six imported infections were logged.

There were 1,509 recoveries on Friday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,791,625 since the pandemic began.

The portal also reported that there were 23,877 active cases currently in the country, with 22,859, or 95.7%, observing home quarantine.

The KKMNow portal reported that 1,018 patients, or 4.26% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 38, with 24 of these patients requiring ventilation support.

The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 63.3%, with seven states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.

Kedah had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 84.6%, followed by Selangor (77.6%), Johor (68.8%), Sabah (65.7%), Negri Sembilan (65.3%), Kelantan (64.6%) and Kuala Lumpur (63%).

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry's GitHub data repository reported that three Covid-19 deaths were reported on Friday.

This brings the death toll to 36,394.
