Umno statement on dissolution fake, says Ahmad Maslan

PETALING JAYA: A viral statement purportedly asking for all Umno ministers to withdraw support for the Prime Minister and resign is fake, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan (pic).

The Umno secretary-general said it was the work of those who hoped to cause division in the party.

"We are a party which has been around for a long time, had weathered challenging times and it is difficult to break us up with such stupid actions," said," Ahmad Maslan in a tweet on Friday (Oct 7).

According to the fake message the Umno Top 5 said the Prime Minister, who was also Umno vice-president, failed to present the date of dissolution to the Yang diPertuan Agong on Oct 6.

"By withdrawing support the government will fall and those who refuse to follow the decision of the Top 5 will be referred to the Umno disciplinary council," it added.
