Cops nab CCTV installer who burgled customers' offices in Puchong

SERDANG: A seasoned criminal has been arrested after targeting offices in which he installed closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.

Serdang OCPD Asst Comm AA Anbalagan said investigations started following a theft at an office unit in Setiawalk Puchong on Sept 16.

Losses from the theft were estimated at around RM10,000.

"Based on information gathered, a 61-year-old suspect was caught on Oct 4 in Ampang," ACP Anbalagan said in a statement on Friday (Oct 7).

"The suspect works as a CCTV technician and has eight prior offences on his criminal record.

"Investigations showed that the suspect was active within the Klang Valley this year. (The value of) items seized during the arrest amounted to RM180,000," he said.

The suspect's modus operandi was to target offices where he installed CCTV cameras.

After familiarising himself with the layout of the premises, he would return a month or two later to break in.

"It would normally happen during the day, on holidays or weekends.

"With his arrest, eight break-ins around the Klang Valley have been solved," he said.

The suspect has been remanded until Tuesday (Oct 11).
