PETALING JAYA: The Education Ministry will get the biggest slice of pie under Budget 2023, with an allocation of RM55.6bil.

Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said that RM1.2bil will be used to upgrade dilapidated school buildings and infrastructure, especially in Sabah and Sarawak.

The Finance Minister also said RM777mil would be allocated for the Supplementary Food Plan to ensure that students get daily nutritional meals. He said that the allocation involved RM3.50 per day for pupils in Peninsular Malaysia and RM4 per day for pupils in Sabah and Sarawak.

Meanwhile, Tengku Zafrul also announced that RM825mil would be set aside for the Early School Assistance programme, which would see an increase of RM50 to RM150 for each student, regardless of parents income limits.
