Over RM2.5bil lost to phone scams since 2018, says Home Minister


KUALA LUMPUR: More than 79,000 phone scam cases which resulted in RM2.51bil in losses have been reported from January 2018 to Sept 15, 2022, the Dewan Rakyat was told.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said 79,559 cases involving losses amounting to RM2,513,732,701.72 were reported during that period.

He said the highest number of victims were those aged between 21 and 40 years old.

He was responding to a question by Steven Sim (PH-Bukit Mertajam) on the breakdown of cases of phone scams since 2018.
