KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has upped the ante in the run-up to the 15th General Election (GE) as thousands of its members gathered for a large-scale meeting at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL), here on Tuesday (Oct 4).

All 191 divisions are expected to attend the meeting including the supreme council, divisions, women and Puteri wings.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan can be seen giving a briefing to the attendees at the event.

Later when met by the press, Ahmad said four main components of the party, which are the Puteri, Pemuda, Wanita and division chiefs were attending the meeting.

"It is just a normal meeting (biasa-biasa). Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi are expected to give speeches.

"We do not know what will be said, as such we have to wait for the Prime Minister and party president to say," he said.

Ahmad, who was evasive about whether talks on GE were on the table, merely said that a press conference will be held after the meeting concluded.

The media was not allowed inside Dewan Tun Hussein Onn as the meeting was a closed-door session.

Ismail Sabri arrived at 2.40pm while Ahmad Zahid and Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan arrived at 2.35pm.

Seen at the meeting were Umno Arau division chief Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, Melaka Investment, Industry, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
