Temporary flood relief centre in Kluang closes, two remain open

JOHOR BARU: A temporary relief centre in Kluang has been closed as more flood evacuees were allowed to return home.

According to the Johor Civil Defence Department, the relief centre at SK Seri Kampung Renggam closed at 2pm on Tuesday (Oct 4).

"There are only two relief centres that are open. They are at SK Sungai Linau in Kluang and SK Melayu Raya in Pontian.

"As of 8pm on Tuesday (Oct 4), there are a total of 79 people from 22 families who are seeking shelter at the two centres.

"Of the number, 32 are in Kluang and 47 are in Pontian," it said in a statement here.

It added that the number of victims in the two districts dropped from 114 at noon to 74 at 4pm.

"The number of people affected went up slightly to 79 between 4pm and 8pm," it added.

Flash floods hit the areas on Sunday (Oct 2) following heavy rain for about two hours.
