Dr Wee attends reception to seek support for seat into ICAO Council


PETALING JAYA: To seek support from member states, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong attended the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) reception hosted by Jamaica, Republic of Korea and Qatar.

In a Facebook post, he said that the countries will also be contesting for the seats in category III of the ICAO Council alongside Malaysia.

The election will be held on Tuesday (Oct 4) Montreal, Canada time.

“I attended the receptions hosted by Jamaica, the Republic of Korea and Qatar to seek support from ICAO member states on the eve of election day.

“From the 44 bilateral meetings that we had conducted since Sept 25, we believe it can strengthen our collaboration with the member states for the advancement of global aviation,” said Dr Wee.

On Monday (Oct 3), Dr Wee said Malaysia has played an active role in the ICAO Council since being elected in 2007.

The minister added he hoped Malaysia would continue its active participation in ICAO programmes and initiatives.
